Afripads have arrived!

Kinanasi opening the Afripads consignment (July 2013). These wonderful re-usable sanitary pads give girls the freedom to attend school – and save a lot of money each year.  We’ve recruited pilot users to trial them & later we will train the women who will distribute them in schools.

Nadra goes to Nursery

Nadra is delighted! She lives with her grandmother who needs to work in her distant shamba and has no extended family to look after her.  Her nursery fees and uniform are paid for by Etatu.

Work has begun on the banda!

The pupils and staff of Millfield School in Somerset are raising funds to build & equip a community space for lessons, meetings, study clubs & the village’s first library. Work began on 25th July; a day later the foundation trenches had been dug.

Fundraising Spa Day

On a glorious, sunny day in June Gill hosted a Spa Day.  Helped by Jo and other generous volunteers, over £1000 was raised. A ticket for the day included massage and beauty treatments, relaxation by the pool, a delicious lunch and a raffle.

Thabiti achieved amongst the highest marks in his KCPE exams this year and   Etatu is delighted to sponsor his place at Shimba Hills Secondary School, where he started on May 6th.

April 25th was International Malaria Day.  We marked it by donating nets, including one to Masika, pictured outside her grandmother’s house where they both live.

Etatu recently interviewed and recruited a wonderful team to oversee its activities in Kenya: Bakari, Mustwafa, Kinanasi, Opah, Tima, Mwanajuma, Halima and Omari.

Three teams of swimmers took part in a relay swim with Street and Glastonbury Lions Club.  Taking place at Millfield School on March 17th, they and their sponsors raised an amazing £800.
